Guilford 134-04
This 8,500 sq. ft. home was completed in 2004 and is an example of an impeccably executed shingle-style home. This home sits on a truly remarkable property, a private peninsula off of the Connecticut coast. The rocky composition of its 2,500 ft. of shoreline, and it’s extreme privacy, leaves visitors with the allusion of a visit to the Maine coast. In constructing this home, it was important to the client to take advantage of the 300° water views. Accordingly, almost every room offers sweeping water views, many of the rooms having access to one of the various balconies that overlook the water. One especially striking view can be enjoyed from the third-floor billiard room, accessible by using the elevator.
Our client spared no expense on finishing this picturesque home. From the highly detailed millwork in the interior, to the all mahogany trim on the exterior, this home is flawlessly detailed. Due to the location of this home, and related building codes during that time, we were required to secure this home to its foundation using over 2,000 nuts and bolts. We also built a fortified seawall to protect the home from the rough, waterfront conditions. For peace of mind, a desalination unit was added to the home capable of processing 1,000 gallons of sea water per day. Unlike many houses around it, a Vermont slate roof was used, an intentional nod to the property's northern feel. Allen J. Reyen’s mark is clear in this property's seamless meshing between a casual exterior and a truly sophisticated interior.
